THE IFANCA HELENE JAMES SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2012

1st prize: £100 and a bottle of champagne

COMPETITION RULES

  • Stories should be a maximum of 2,200 words.
  • We cannot accept stories written for children.
  • There is no set theme for the competition and we will accept stories written on any theme. Helene’s own interests included champagne, travel and customs in different countries, animals, watching sunsets, feeling the music, sharing knowledge and wisdom, and you are welcome to use any of these if you wish, but stories with these themes will not receive preferential treatment.
  • Each story should be typed double spaced on A4 paper, single sided and with pages numbered.
  • Please do not write your name on the same sheet as your story. Your story will be judged anonymously, but please ensure that the title of your story is in a header on each page.
  • Enclose a separate cover sheet with your name, address, telephone number, email address, plus the title(s) of your story(ies) and a word count. If submitting more than one entry, there is no need for a separate envelope for each entry.
  • The entry fee is £3 per story. You may enter as many times as you like, provided each story is accompanied by the £3 entry fee.
  • Entry fees are payable in sterling. A Paypal facility will be available for online payments in a few months time – please check back.
  • Cheques should be made payable to The Ifanca Hélène James Trust
  • Entries must be submitted by post to: The Ifanca Hélène James Short Story Competition, Green Plain, 185 St David’s Road, Letterston, Haverfordwest, Pembs SA62 5SS or by email to: ihjcompetition@gmail.com as a Word attachment.
  • Entries will not be returned; please retain your own copy. If you require acknowledgement of receipt of your entries please enclose an SAE marked ‘Acknowledgement’.
  • No alterations may be made to a story once it has been submitted.
  • No competitor may win more than one prize.
  • Winners will be contacted by email in September 2012.
  • Copyright of each entry remains with the author.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Stories should be in English and should not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
  • Stories that have won or are under consideration in other short story competitions are not eligible.
  • Stories should not be a translation of another author’s work.
  • We will accept stories from writers of any nationality, from any country.

Before submitting your entry please make sure you read the Competition Rules thoroughly. We reserve the right to reject any entry that does not comply. Refunds cannot be made in this case.
